Do I have to pay VAT on my order? Are there any tax exemptions?

Depending on your billing address and account type, VAT (Value Added Tax) may apply to certain orders. Here is an overview of when VAT is charged and the potential exemptions.

Digital Nomads: Try setting a billing address using the "I'm Feeling Lucky!" button located below the billing address section.

When is VAT charged?

VAT is calculated and added to your order at the Checkout page when purchasing products or services. If you're from a tax-free location and use that location as your billing address, no VAT will be added to your order.

VAT is charged on orders when your billing address is in:

  • The European Union (EU)
  • The United Kingdom (UK)
  • Taiwan

The USA, Hong Kong, and other countries outside the listed regions will not be charged VAT.

VAT rates by location

  1. Estonia
    • 22% VAT for individuals and organizations located in Estonia
  2. Taiwan
    • 5% VAT for individuals and organizations based in Taiwan
  3. European Union & United Kingdom
    • VAT rates are not the same throughout Europe and range from 17% to 27%

Your country's VAT rate will be charged if:

  • You are an individual resident in the EU or UK;
  • Your company or organization is located in the EU or UK and does not have an intra-community VAT number;
  • You did not provide an intra-community VAT number during the account setup or checkout process.

VAT exemptions

VAT will not be charged if:

  • You are an individual resident outside the EU, UK or Taiwan;
  • Your company or organization is located outside the EU, UK or Taiwan;
  • Your company or organization is located in the EU (except Estonia) or the UK, and you have correctly added your intra-community VAT number to your Trustname account profile.

How to add your VAT number

If your organization is located in a VAT-registered region, you can add your VAT number to your account by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click My Profile > Billing from the top right menu.
  3. Select the billing address for the organization you wish to edit.
  4. Click Edit and locate the VAT Number field.
  5. Enter your VAT number, ensuring it includes the country code (e.g., BE, ES, FR, DE, EE) and a string of numbers without any separators or spaces.
  6. Click Save at the bottom of the form.

Important: The VAT number must include the country code and numbers without spaces or separators. If formatted incorrectly, the VAT rate applicable to your country will be used.

Tax-free countries

Certain regions are considered as tax-free countries and do not charge sales tax or VAT:

  • Hong Kong
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Brunei
  • Cayman Islands
  • Bermuda
  • Gibraltar
  • Kuwait
  • Qatar
  • Libya
  • Macau

VAT is calculated and added to your order at the Checkout page when purchasing products or services. If you set one of these locations as your billing address, no VAT will be added to your order.

Wallet top-ups are exempt from VAT

Wallet top-ups are not considered final sales and are exempt from VAT.

VAT is only charged and calculated on the checkout page when purchasing products or services.

VAT & .es domains

For domains with the Spanish country code extension (.es) registered for self-employed individuals, the owner must be listed as an individual. To obtain VAT exemption, create an organization for your business with a valid VAT number and list that organization as the billing contact for the domain.
