Troubleshooting New Redirects & HTTPS Setup

When you set up a new redirect and enable HTTPS in your Trustname dashboard, our system handles the heavy lifting for you. This includes applying your redirect, installing a free SSL certificate, and pointing your DNS. Sometimes, however, it may not work right away. Don’t worry—here’s what to check.

How HTTPS Redirects Work

At Trustname, we automatically install a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate on your domain when you enable HTTPS redirects. This ensures that both http:// and https:// visitors are redirected securely without any extra setup from you.

[Component][List][Markers] Default
  • A free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate is automatically installed.
  • Once active, both http:// and https:// visitors are redirected to your chosen destination.
  • DNS changes may take up to 24 hours to fully propagate worldwide.

With Trustname, you never have to worry about manually buying, installing, or renewing SSL certificates—HTTPS just works, automatically and securely.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Redirect not showing yet

You set up the redirect and updated DNS, but it’s still not working.

Common reasons:

[Component][List][Markers] Default
  • DNS propagation – It takes time for DNS changes to update globally.
  • Browser cache – Your browser may still be showing an old state.

What you can do:

[Component][List][Number] - Default
  1. Test the redirect in another browser
  2. Use an incognito/private window
  3. Add a query string to force-refresh locally, e.g. https://example.com?v=2
  4. Try it from the command line (curl or ping)

2. Did the DNS fully propagate?

Even if your redirect looks correct in your dashboard, the DNS change might not have reached your local network yet.

How to check:

[Component][List][Markers] Default
  • Use a DNS propagation tool like whatsmydns.net
  • Run a ping example.com or nslookup example.com from your machine. Read more >
  • Check our built-in Redirect Tester for a visual confirmation

3. SSL certificate not active yet

If you’ve just enabled HTTPS, the free Let’s Encrypt SSL may still be installing. Usually it’s quick, but in some cases it may take up to 30 minutes.

What to do:

[Component][List][Markers] Default
  • Wait a little longer and try again
  • Confirm via our Redirect Tester whether HTTPS is active
  • Wait a little longer and try again

Be Patient

Most redirects and SSL setups are live within minutes, but global DNS updates can take up to 24 hours. During this time, some visitors may see the redirect, while others may not.

Still Having Trouble?

If the redirect is not active after 24 hours, please contact Trustname Support with your domain details. We’ll be happy to check the setup for you.
